What do we include in our fire drill?
- Actions to be taken on identifying a fire -When to fight a fire and when not
- Arrangements for contacting the emergency services- when and how to call the fire brigade
- Type of extinguisher to be used in specific types of fires
- Locations of the available exit routes
- Location of the assembly point
- Basic knowledge of the emergency evacuation plan of the premise
- Appropriate use of the Public Address system in order to control panic, if installed in the premise
- Practical demonstration of operating fire extinguishers on small fires
Why is fire drill a crucial part of fire safety?
- Compliance with the requirements of the current legislation. According to the National Building Code (NBC), fire drills should be conducted periodically, in accordance with the Fire Safety Plan of the premises.
- Ensure all occupants are aware of the necessary actions to be taken in the event of a fire
- Enable calm and efficient evacuation of all occupants
- All installed systems are fully functional at all points
- Foster serious consideration of fire alarms
- Assist participants in keeping their calm and adhering to a pre-decided systematic evacuation plan because panic can play a significant role in mishaps during a genuine fire event.
